The Secret to Having Unique Value for Your Clients

No matter what work you do in the world, regardless of how you are paid (or not), the value you bring has more to do with the offer you are than the work you do.

What does it mean to be an offer?

It means at least this: allowing, even inviting, whatever it is that stirs your soul, moves your spirit, and engages your passions to permeate your work.

In Seattle there’s a story, perhaps an urban legend, about a doorman who used to work at the original Frederick and Nelson store. (Fred and Nelly’s, as we called it around town.) As told to me, this man was an offer of unconditional love and respect. He gazed on everyone who passed through those doors with such tenderness and appreciation that few could enter or leave the store unchanged.

Whatever your gift, whatever lights your fire, let it shine in your eyes and speak through your gestures. Risk this, be the offer that you are in all that you do, and your just-right clients will be touched.
